SAUTE, the Swiss Association of University Teachers of English, was founded in 1947. It aims to promote and develop English studies in Switzerland. SAUTE brings together all those who take a professional interest in the academic study of English. The association provides a platform for discussing current developments in the field (for example during its biennial conferences). It is an academic market place, where information, ideas, and university teachers may be exchanged. It provides an opportunity for coordinating activities within Switzerland's academic communities. Finally, SAUTE participates in the activities of larger academic bodies such as the SAGW and ESSE (The European Society for the Study of English promotes international contacts. It publishes a magazine, The European English Messenger.)
SAUTE membership is open to persons teaching at a university and/or engaged in scholarly research.
